The job of a sitter though might seem like an easy going one where you occasionally check on the kid and laze around the couch the whole time munching on chips isn’t always the reality. Of course, this would also depend on the kind of kid you are baby sitting and their relationship with you. However, when you are taking up this role there are a few things you need to be aware of especially when you are a newbie. So here are some of them.
Practice the basics
Taking care of a kid requires you to be aware of at least the basics of child care. Therefore even if you can’t find the ‘child care 101’ book make sure that you do some research beforehand. Things like knowing how to make a quick snack or meal, how to soothe them when they throw a tantrum, the tricks to use to calm them down are some basics you should be picking up on. Of course, the parents of the child may also inform you of it but unlike any other nursing jobs in singapore, here you have to do a lot of homework by yourself beforehand especially if you are a first timer at the role.
Know the basics of baby care
If you are assigned with taking care of a toddler of the ages 2-4 it is necessary that you know the basics of baby care as well. This includes things like knowing how to pin a diaper, how to make and test formula, how to put them to bed and whatnot. The deal with toddlers is that unlike with much older kids you need to be extra cautious of what you do around them and how you care for them. So this role might be much more challenging as well. Even when it comes to something as simple as toys you need to make sure that they don’t put them too often in their mouths or that the small tiny pieces are out of their reach and that the toys are always clean. Simply, everything matters when it comes to kids of these ages. So make sure that you read and gain some prior experience before handling such young kids.
Know the rules and follow them
Every house has rules developed by the parents and so when the parents are away it is up to you to make sure that you stick these to avoid disturbing the routine the kids have been used to. If there are certain snacks that they need to avoided, a strict bed time that they need to stick to or any other rules of the house ought to be maintained. So before you start work make sure that you discuss these beforehand with the parents and set things out straight.
Take the above details in to account when applying for this role and make sure that you do a good job throughout!
